The Gokstad and Oseberg ships were found in burial mounds. They were well-preserved, providing rich information about Viking ship technology.

Several books I’ve read indicate much of what we know about Viking era shipbuilding and technology comes from these ships and the large amount of grave goods provide a wide open door to the material culture.

I came across the Gokstad illustration in Viking Age: Everyday life during the extraordinary era of the Norsemen, by Kirsten Wolf. Was able to trace the illustration to Wikipedia. Don’t have any particular commentary to add to the models at the moment, just wanted to capture the images and credits, so I can use them later.

Enjoy the views!
